On an entirely normal, beautiful fall day in Chester's Mill, Maine, the town is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. Planes crash into it and fall from the sky in flaming wreckage, a gardener's hand is severed as "the dome" comes down on it, people running errands in the neighboring town are divided from their families, and cars explode on impact. No one can fathom what this barrier is, where it came from, and when -- or if -- it will go away.
Dale Barbara, Iraq vet and now a short-order cook, finds himself teamed with a few intrepid citizens -- town newspaper owner Julia Shumway, a physician's assistant at the hospital, a select-woman, and three brave kids. Against them stands Big Jim Rennie, a politician who will stop at nothing -- even murder -- to hold the reins of power, and his son, who is keeping a horrible secret in a dark pantry. But their main adversary is the Dome itself. Because time isn't just short. It's running out.

21 . This IS classic Stephen King
Posted February 14, 2010 by Pietro , StamfordIf you like 'The Stand', 'It', you should like this, this is classic King. The first 100+ pages grip you and take you straight into the setting where you will be engrossed to hear more. Get emotional at the bad guys, fearful if they'll get their just reward. Hypothesize the bizarre situation along with the characters, and the childhood taunts that could be seen as a much bigger picture of possible cruelty that lies within us.
22 . Great characters, disappointing ending
Posted February 03, 2010 by Ronnie C , South CarolinaI like Stephen King's books because he usually has great characters and this book has them. I enjoyed the book all the way through but the ending was a joke.
23 . Hey, it's Stephen King!
Posted February 01, 2010 by Junie Moon , Dunedin, FLThis a good, entertaining book. The characters are believable and the action is swift. It is captivating and 800 pages goes by qucikly. Yes, the ending is a disappointment. Not much is really explained in a satisfactory way, but, hey - it's Stephen King, right! When were his books NOT this way? For that matter, when was science fiction NOT this way! It's a good book, worth the cost and it's Stephen King - everyone's reading it! get in on the action!
24 . Really liked this book except for the ending.
Posted January 29, 2010 by Kerrie , SalemI enjoyed this book. I like most of his books. I didn't like the ending. Why didn't they try digging out under the dome? This was never addressed. I would recommend it. Anxious to read more if his that I've missed.
25 . An entertaining read
Posted January 29, 2010 by C. Helm , Akron, OHStephen King delivers a fast-paced drama with a large cast of characters and an intense "end of the world" scenerio. My only disappointments were in the unsatisfying and abrupt conclusion of the novel and the fact that he killed off 2 of the 3 dogs.
26 . Painful...
Posted January 28, 2010 by Joanne , Rockland...the one word I'd use to describe this book. I made it to page 350, only because I kept telling myself, "It has GOT to get better!" It didn't, so I stopped reading it, something I rarely do midway through a book.
27 . Stephen King's Worst Ever Ending
Posted January 28, 2010 by Sebrina , TennesseeThe story was good until the meth lab blew up....from then, the story dragged without a purpose. The ending was the worst ever written by Stephen King and I have read them all. Still worth the read, just dissappointed. It is like he just wanted to be done with it.
28 . SK makes you feel like you are in Chester's Mill
Posted January 24, 2010 by Sarah , Eden Prairie, MNThis book was very well written. It was easy to follow and understand , given the wild idea of the story. He never gave away too much, but just enough to keep me wanting more!
29 . I couldnt put it down...and it was heavy...lol
Posted January 22, 2010 by Caryn , LombardGive me a big book anytime. This is probably the last book I read in paper. ( I received an ebook for Christmas) Even though I could only read it on my couch with my knees up, because it was really big, I enjoyed it right up until the ending. I thought he could have come up with something a bit more realistic, but hey, I still am saying I loved it.
30 . Good idea, but too long
Posted January 21, 2010 by David , TorontoThe concept was good, but just far too much minutae & interaction with boring b-team characters.
