this is the most boring book i have ever laid eyes on...it drags on and on and on and on and on...i have no idea how it became a classic...the reader can find no sympathy for any of the characters because they are not fully developed..i doubt that the problem is with "this translation:..the plot (or lack thereof) would remain no matter WHO translated it..reading craig's list marriage and relationships forum is more entertaining...this book was DRIVEL and a lot of drama that is difficult to care about...additionally...several hundred pages are consumed by one of the protagonists questioning of religion...quite a turn off for me, he found no answers, and didn't capture my attention...the remainder is a lot of talk about farming, which was pretty much boring, and i fought the impulse to just "page forward"...i bought the darned book...so i forced myself to read it...looking for the reasons that this book was so highly rated...i could find no redemption...i want a refund of the time i spent reading this tripe...if i could give it less than one star, i would!

I debated for MONTHS about buying this book and trying to read it as I have always heard Tolstoy was very indepth, etc. and I honestly didn't know if I could "get into" (much less understand!) his writing. "Anna Karenina" is absolutely the best novel I have ever read!!! I was captured by all of the characters and enjoyed Tolstoy's writing so much that I am thinking about tackeling "War and Peace". Truly---do not be afraid of reading this novel as I was. And even though it has been years since reading it, all the characters remain with me to this day and I will reread it again soon. One word to describe this novel: OUTSTANDING!!!
