The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games Book: #1)
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before-and survival (continued) and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. Acclaimed writer Suzanne Collins, author of the New York Times bestselling The Underland Chronicles, delivers equal parts suspense and philosophy, adventure and romance, in this searing novel set in a future with unsettling parallels to our present.

1 . Good read BUT SHORT.
Posted December 03, 2013 by Scott B , St. LouisI wanted to read this trilogy after seeing the first movie. I almost can not justify spending the money for such a short book. It has to move quickly, simply because there is no meat to the story. With that being said, I did get the books and did enjoy the story, just left me wishing for more depth.
2 . Good Read

3 . Surprisingly Addictive
Posted May 02, 2012 by Kristina , Long IslandI resisted reading at first because it was a childrens book, but i broke down after seeing the movie and urges from my co-workers. I'm glad I did.

6 . Once you read it, you can't stop!
Posted March 17, 2012 by Donna , RosevilleI had so much fun reading this book. If I didn't have a life, I could have finished reading it in one day. With the movie coming, I could really picture the characters. I can't wait to read book#2. I highly recommend it!
7 . omg
Posted January 16, 2012 by stephanie , bc, canadaI never gush, no matter how much I like a book; this is not a gushing book; however, I really, really, truly recommend it. Also a warning to everyone over 40 - crying is not our thing. After reading a particular section of the book I bawled. I bawled, and bawled. For the next few days I looked like someone recovering from a serious bender; all poofy, blotchy... you get the picture. Before I posted this review I bought the second book, Catching Fire. I can't wait to see what happens with Katniss and Peeta after they return home. I also can't wait for the movie. People, this series has substance, unlike the bloodsucking .... you fill in the blanks, we had to endure the last 5 or so years. You WILL enjoy this story and, like me, I hope you post your thoughts.
8 . Amazingly written - must read for all types
Posted January 12, 2012 by N warner , surreyThe book is very well paced throughout the entire experience. It makes you want to keep reading, learning more about each individual person, the scenery, and whats going to happen next. The writter is able to capture the essence, without having to go into too much detail that your falling asleep. I didnt think it would be a book for me but I couldnt put it down.
9 . Perfect, keeps you turning pages

10 . Could NOT put it down!
Posted December 25, 2011 by Cory T , Auburn Hills, MIThis is the type of book that stays with you when you're not reading it. I found myself thinking about the characters and what had been happening over and over in my head while out and about doing other things. The character development of Katniss (main character) is thorough and I was right there with her the entire time, which is a lot of what made it work so well, in my opinion.
I read this book the first time in three days and the second time in two. It starts off great and was hard to put down, but once the games start it's actually impossible. You HAVE to know what's going to happen next all the time, straight through until the last page and even then, I had to immediately buy the second book because I had to know what happened after THAT! It's not my favorite book of all time, but I would recommend it to ANYONE that enjoys a good science fiction. I loved it!
