This story is no ordinary vampire tale. Mead has done her homework on Romanian folklore and Orthodox Catholic saints, and she uses it to weave a unique and mesmerizing mystery with a whodunit ending that even the most skilled detectives will not predict. With social angst that every teenager can appreciate and sexual tension that leaves Stephanie Meyer's Twilight looking like a children's book, this little gem is sure to be a hit.—VOYA
Mead’s absorbing, debut YA novel, the first in a new series, blends intricately detailed fantasy with a contemporary setting, teen-relevant issues, and a diverse…cast of supporting characters. Occasional steamy sex and a scattering of vulgar language demand mature readers, but teens able to handle the edgy elements will speed through this vamp story and anticipate the next installment.—Booklist

Posted April 06, 2010 by Carrie-Anne , .....,North CarolinaThis book has almost everything need to be the best. It has humor, romance, hot guys, rebellious main character, drama, vampires, magical powers, and a well developed plot. The only thing it is missing is a movie. lolololololol.
5 . Good book
Posted March 25, 2010 by Melissa , HesperiaAlthough there is some stuff in the book that was stolen from the Princess Diaries movie (Names like Rinaldi and Mia, and Hathaway as in Anne Hathaway), it was still a good book and a good start to the series.
6 . If you enjoy a mix of vampire and supernatural you'll love this.
Posted March 08, 2010 by Crystal S , Vancouver, WaI really enjoy how this book brings you into it. Like you feel like you are part of the story. This book was extremely interesting to me. It also talks about subjects that are very much a part of real world experience; afterlife, ghosts, and love. I like the spin put on the vampire world in here. That they need protection. It almost goes without saying in most books/movies Vampires are immortal, strong, fierce, ruthless, and so not in need of help from anyone. In this book it shows them as we are with a few exceptions. Makes it seem almost realistic and vampires more human. Of course since Vampires aren't real we can make them be whatever we want them to be, but most people choose to make them villans. I like how Richelle Mead sees them. Like they are human with a different diet for the most part. If you read this book definately get them all. They seem to flow together. Where one ends the next begins. Loved the series. Amazing read...
7 . Wonderful Book!
Posted January 14, 2010 by JT , OKCWith all the other vampire books out there right now, this one is actually one of my favorites! Rose, the main character, is not a whiney girl who can't defend herself, she can kick butt! This book is fast paced and is a very quick read. I am a HUGE Twilight fan, and I liked this book better than Twilight!
