Constance is s a one legged, uneducated, depressed, female sex worker, who is accidentally abducted by aliens. Fearing micro bacterial infection, they abandon her on the International Space Station, hoping no one will notice an extra tourist... If you like your heroines, feisty, lewd and quirky then this should be right up your alley.

1 . Fun for the twisted mind!
Posted January 13, 2011 by eyespy , Allentown, PAOur online book club at sonyreaderboards.com read "New Shoes" as our book of the month selection. Let me tell you, it's not for the faint of heart. Fortunately I've always been a quirky girl with my mind half in the gutter and so a book like this is right up my alley.
My favorite characters are a pair of delightfully lowlife prostitutes, Con and Iz. Con has a cheap prosthetic leg which her friends decide to replace by stealing a state of the art one for her. Unbeknownst to all, this new leg belongs to aliens who promptly abduct Con. Mayhem ensues.
Eventually Con makes her way, via the International Space Station, to the United States where she triggers a diplomatic crisis. Who is this woman, how did she get herself on board such a secure location, and just what is her nefarious plan?
Now, I'm not a political animal and so for me the international diplomatic crisis was the weakest part of the book but of course your mileage may vary. The incident was handled by politicians, military figures and diplomats with their own foibles. Even though this plot was not the sort of thing that appeals to me, it was handled with good humor and I was able to slog through until the end of the book which once again concentrated on the two prostitutes and their unique take on life. If you enjoy political intrigue, you might very well have a lot more fun with the middle of the book than I.
All in all, it was a fun read. As one of the few Americans who knows how to properly brew a pot of tea and has an abhorrence of tea bags, I greatly enjoyed the running joke about how hard it is to find a decent beverage in my country.
