A woman has vanished while digging a dinosaur bone bed in the remote wilderness of Canada. Somehow, the only evidence has made its way to the inbox of Chief Medical Examiner Kay Scarpetta, over two thousand miles away in Boston. She has no idea why.
But as events unfold with alarming speed, Scarpetta begins to suspect that the paleontologist's disappearance is connected to a series of crimes much closer to home: a gruesome murder, inexplicable tortures, and trace evidence from the last living creatures of the dinosaur age.
When she turns to those around her, Scarpetta finds that the danger and suspicion have penetrated even her closest circles. Her niece Lucy speaks in riddles. Her lead investigator, Pete Marino, and FBI forensic psychologist and husband, Benton Wesley, have secrets of their own. Feeling alone and betrayed, Scarpetta is tempted by someone from her past as she tracks a killer both cunning and cruel.

1 . Held my interest to the end.
Posted October 17, 2012 by MD , TucsonThe Bone Bed is one of Patricia Cornwell's best writing. Her last 3 books were good, but did not keep me reading for long. This book has some of everything in it. Forensics, which I'm really interested in, Marino in trouble again and just all around a good mystery with Lucy, Kay's neice, Benton, Kay's husband and all the detectives trying to figure out who and why these people died. It held my interest to the end and also kept me guessing as to who severed the lady's ear and then sent it to Kay Scarpetta. It also kept me wondering if (female) Douglas Burke, Benton's FBI partner would win Benton over. What a surprise how that turned out!! I think this book was excellent! Patricia Cornwell is back to her exciting, page turner, writing self. I would recommend this book to all who want to read a book that they have trouble putting down because it's so good!
