Elena Gilbert is alive--again.
When Elena sacrificed herself to save the two vampire brothers who love her--the handsome, brooding Stefan and the sleek and dangerous Damon--she was consigned to a fate beyond death. Until a powerful supernatural force pulled her back.
Now Elena is not just human. She has powers and gifts that were bestowed on her in the afterlife. What's more, her blood pulses with an overwhelming and unique force that makes her irresistible to any vampire.
Stefan wants to find a way to keep Elena safe so that they can make a life together. Damon, however, is driven by an insatiable desire for power, and wants Elena to rule as his princess. When Stefan is lured away from Fell's Church, Damon seizes his chance to convince her that he is the brother she is meant to be with. . . .
But a darkness is infiltrating the town, and Damon, always the hunter, is now the hunted; he becomes the prey of a malevolent creature that can possess him at will, and who desires not just Elena's blood but her death.

1 . Good read, but...
Posted December 12, 2010 by VMS , SATXThis book was very confusing. I would have stopped, but I'm too far into the series. It was very hard to follow and it took me an unusually long time to read because I lost interest. Hopefully the next one is better...
2 . L.J. Smith should stopped at book four of this series.
Posted February 21, 2010 by Lisa , Kansas CityThis book is TERRIBLE! I really liked the first four books in the series, but this book (five) is very hard to follow. Very fragmented and easy, very easy to put down and never pick up again. . I won't be following this series anymore. L.J. Smith should stopped at book four of this series. I would say don't bother reading Vampire Diaries The Return: Nightfall you will be disappointed.
3 . Great book!
Posted January 01, 2010 by Ashley , ArkansasI really enjoyed this book, there are quite a few in the series and she is coming out with another in March of 2010 and i cannot wait to see where that one takes the story line. Some people may think she stole the ideas from Twilight, but this was out way before then. DOnt mistake, its still that Lost girl searching for something, and the studly Vampire to make it all ok, but throw in his brother, who wants nothing more to destroy him and a town that has a bigger history than anyone ever realized, you get an awesome story!
