Yoshi Lomax is on the run, but trouble follows her wherever she goes...
When things get too hot in Miami, criminal lawyer Yoshi figures she'll be safe if she goes home to Norfolk, Virginia, for a little while. But the streets there are just as mean, and a sistah needs to keep her head to avoid getting popped by a drive-by. And when Yoshi witnesses the brutal murder of a snitch by a ruthless drug dealer, she knows she'll be the next one in the gangsta's sights. Out of time and abandoned by everyone but her ex-hooker cousin Carmine, Yoshi's goin' to have to learn to fight back if she wants to live another day...
In this action-packed but disappointing sequel to Playing Dirty, high-powered attorney Yoshi Lomax runs home to her violent family in Norfolk, VA, after fleeing Miami, where she made some bad choices that resulted in her lover's death. Heedless of the signs of domestic drama, hood violence, and the twisted interpersonal relationships that her cousin Carmen pulls her in to, Yoshi quickly gets involved in complicated murderous intrigues. While she finds a new love during her escapades, her selfishness is still lethal to those around her. Verdict Swinson's latest is not as exciting a roller-coaster ride as the previous title. Her protagonist seems subdued, almost zombie-like, shrugging off chaotic violence as if she's watching a made-for-TV movie. Still, fans of Playing Dirty will want this volume.-Vanessa Morris, The iSchool at Drexel University, Philadelphia Copyright 2009 Reed Business Information.
