1 . Good read
Posted September 21, 2011 by Cassandra , TexasI would have to say this is a wonderful book. It draws you in. The only thing I wish is that the writer would have made the reader connect a little more to the characters, ie. cry, laugh, love, hate etc with each character. Even so, I'm looking forward to reading more of this author.
2 . A great read from start to finish.
Posted July 27, 2011 by Vin , HoustonThis is great sci-fi, the emphasis is on the characters and the story rather than the science but it keeps away from soap opera.
The characters are interesting, they are likeable or hate-able as required and all painted in shades of grey, they are given some depth without back stories being shoehorned into the plot.
There is plenty of action as we move from battle to battle, some small, some big.
The pace is nice and quick without any pauses or filler.
There are several surprises, not just a twist at the end but a few little twists throughout.
The ending is great, dark and cynical and consistent, no forced happy ending just an intelligent ending.
There were some reviews about it being a cliffhanger but I don't really agree, the ending is dark but it is logical and consistent and I'd still be happy with it if there was no sequel.
I have got quite a few other free books from the ReaderStore and most have been worth what I paid for them, or less, this is the exception that makes it worth ploughing through the other trash.
3 . Dystopia at its finest!
Posted December 15, 2010 by Mark , OntarioHaven is the kind of book that I went into with little to no expectations; all I hoped was that it was somewhat decently written and would occupy my time. What I found is a wonderfully written story that provoked real emotion! As a fan of dystopian literature, I found Haven to be refreshing and new yet still familiar and comforting.
If I really wanted to, I could nitpick the little things, but seeing as it didn't impact my enjoyment of the book, I won't bother. The bottom line: as far as novels go, this one is spectacular and I highly recommend it! Based on the cliffhanger ending, I am eagerly anticipating a sequel. Can't wait!
4 . Would like to read the sequel
Posted July 26, 2010 by RSelf , Simi ValleyThe book was fairly well written and had many twists and turns. I appreciated the sci-fi potential of this book as well. I sincerely hope the author plans to write a sequel.
The book comes to an abrupt end which lets you FEEL like there is more coming, but I don't am waiting for the promise of one. I hope the author has it in him to continue Kaylee, Malcolm, and Rick's stories.
