Cade remembers what life was like before the wars, when physical contact was still allowed. He and others of the Underground want that life back, and they're determined to bring down the alien government before the human race is forever extinguished. While tapping into the alien system, he stumbles onto Elexis, a woman of intense passion and curiosity about all things sexual. Excerpt from Tangled Web by Jaci Burton
Elexis sighed. What a day. Hell, what a month, for that matter. When the entire security of Earth depended upon a computer system, something going wrong was a big damn deal not only to all humans, but also to the aliens who now governed their planet. And there was no bigger deal than a breach to the system.
To say she was keyed up was an understatement. The entire GIS tech unit had worked diligently the past few months trying to keep the Underground hackers out of the system. Elexis was exhausted from the amount of time she'd spent constantly upgrading the system.
The Underground had made steady gains over the years and had successfully breached the tightest security program on the planet several times. Somebody on the other side was very, very smart.
But not as smart as GIS. She and her coworkers would outwit the hackers and keep the system safe. They always had.
She rolled her neck from side to side to ease the tension and played a few games on the web, neither of which served to alleviate the stress making her chest feel like a tight band wound around it. She needed to relax or she'd never sleep, and tomorrow was another busy day.
What she really needed was an orgasm, a sure tension reliever. It'd been days since she'd sought out cybersex. Tonight would be a perfect night for it. Situating herself onto the wide chaise in front of her system, she spoke her code and waited for the net to come online.
Adjusting the robe so that it covered her legs, she leaned back and reached for her glass of Relaid. She sipped the clear red liquor, enjoying the sweet taste as it burned its way down her throat. Maybe it wasn't real alcohol--the aliens had outlawed that long ago, but it still provided enough chemical relaxation that she could feel the tension in her shoulders slowly easing. Now she was ready to give the next command to the computer.
The computer answered. "What is your preference?"
Elexis leaned back and closed her eyes, trying to decide. She'd occasionally chosen females to cybersex with, as they understood a woman's body and the triggers to orgasm, but she definitely preferred men. Something about their voices. So deep, so seductive, the husky tones made her libido flame to life.
"Male, between twenty-five and thirty-five. Over six-feet tall. Well built, but not overly muscled. Dark hair, deep voice." She didn't know why she had this vision of a certain man, but it was one she called upon again and again. Not that it made any difference what they looked like. She'd never see them anyway. A series of conversations resulting in a quick orgasm and she'd be satisfied and on her way to bed.
"One moment," the computer answered.
She often wondered what her partners really looked like. Chosen at random, they could be anyone on the planet. All humans lived in alien-controlled high rises occupied by thousands in each building. It could even be a neighbor for all she knew.
Since sex was controlled by the government and identities were kept secret, there'd be no chance of physical contact and recognition later. She never knew who she'd get on the other end of the connection. It could even be someone she worked with.
Thank the government for anonymity. She'd die of embarrassment if she could actually see the person with whom she had sex.
She selected soft jazz music, the slow, sexy strains of a saxophone always putting her in the mood. She'd always enjoyed the old twentieth-century jazz sounds, finding them both sensually stimulating and relaxing at the same time.
An image came up, a rainbow of distorted waves undulating across the screen before it slowly took shape. As always, the figure was more shadow than form, but she could vaguely see a man seated in front of his computer.
"Hello?" she asked.
He didn't answer right away. Finally, he said, "Well, hello there."
His voice warmed her more than the liquor. Deep, husky, dripping with barely leashed sexuality, just the way she liked it. "I'm Lexi. Are you agreeable to cybersex this evening?"
Once again he paused before answering. She leaned forward, wondering if she'd been misdirected and would need to sever their connection. With the upgrades they'd been working on the past few months, anything was possible, even a glitch in the system. Although that was highly unlikely. She was too good at her job to make a mistake like that.
"Cybersex, huh? Sure."
Ah, much better. "What's your name?"
Elexis settled back against the chaise, anticipation knotting her stomach. She opened a drawer filled with toys, trying to decide if she wanted to use her hand or one of the many vibrators guaranteed to send her quickly over the edge.
"Hello Cade. Shall we get started?"
