The works in this anthology were written to fill a vast void in the dramatic, comedic, and musical theatre works that are available to companies with minority actors. Although any actor can play any part, there are certain works which offer particular challenges in language, situations, and cultural circumstances that inspire and illuminate the gifts that are uniquely and deeply embedded in the embodiment of actors of color. Much of this richness is often found in the dialectical and oratorical forms inherent in the language of this cultural subset we call minority actors. As Shakespeare wows us today with his timeless use of Elizabethan language and dialectical forms, so will modern audiences find the language and dialectical forms employed in these anthologized works to be just as imaginative, colorful, and timeless. People, regardless of their racial background, will understand and find some common ground in the situations these plays pose.
