Published in 1845, Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass is a fiery anti-slavery autobiography. Douglass, who was born into slavery, describes his life as a slave, his ambition to get an education, and his struggle for freedom. He portrays the acts of violence committed against the slave population with graphic brutality and his lifelong campaign against slavery.
