Devastated by the discovery that his wife, Helen, was murdered, Special Agent Pendergast must have retribution. But revenge is not simple. As he stalks his wife's betrayers-a chase that takes him from the wild moors of Scotland to the bustling streets of New York City and the darkest bayous of Louisiana-he is also forced to dig further into Helen's past. And he is stunned to learn that Helen may have been a collaborator in her own murder.Peeling back the layers of deception, Pendergast realizes that the conspiracy is deeper, goes back generations, and is more monstrous than he could have ever imagined-and everything he's believed, everything he's trusted, everything he's understood . . . may be a horrific lie.COLD VENGEANCENothing is what it seems.

2 . Great book--leaves me wanting more!!
Posted August 31, 2011 by AMC , Kathleen, GaThis book was fantastic! Picking up the Pendergast story where Fever Dream left off, this novel continues the story of Aloysius' quest to find out what really happened to Helen.
When I purchased the book I was half-way afraid that I would be disappointed--I had so eagerly awaited the release of this book, my fear was that my anticipation would have built up my expectations to a point which reality could never match. I could not have more wrong! The book met and exceeded all my expectations.
It is a fast-paced, exciting read. I could not wait to see what was going to happen next, and found myself reading during every free moment. At the same time I wanted to slow down my reading to make the book last longer.
I cannot recommend this book strongly enough, especially to fans of Agent Pendergast in particular, and to fans of Preston and Child in general. Fans of mysteries, conspiracy theories, and suspense novels--this book will not fail to satisfy!!
Well done Preston and Child!!! Please don't keep us hanging long to find out what happens next with Pendergast, Helen, and Constance (and her baby)!
