Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful-too beautiful for words.Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings. In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.

1 . GOOOOOOOOOD READ!
Posted July 17, 2011 by Zoe , West VirginiaIf I could, I would've given this book 4.5 stars...
On the whole, I loved the book. The plot was clever, and showing a fantasy version of the problem with fitting in that tweens and teens have today. The adventure and (most of) the characters are awesome.
There are only two bits that I don't like, and they sort of fit together, sooo....
1: David. Unlike the other characters(Laurel, Tamini, CHELSEA even, for heaven's sake!) felt, well, bland. There. I said it. He feels forced for the other reason(see below.) Yes I like Tamini.
2: The love triangle.Laurel is caught in a love triangle (WHOA! Where have we seen THAT before?!) between Tamini and David. It feels forced, as though she's trying to do what other authors do, except with her, it feels slightly forced.
That is all. And I would suggest this book to others.
2 . Liked it, didn't love it
Posted August 14, 2010 by S. Cross , KalamazooI chose this book to read because I am a huge fan of the Twilight series, Stephenie Meyer wrote a blurb on the book jacket recommending it, and I love faeries and thought it would be cool to read about them.
I really got into the story, but I wasn't really crazy about how it as written. There are some points in the book where more detail would have been nice. I was lost sometimes about what was going on, though I did catch up as I kept reading.
The characters could use some more fleshing out, but overall I did get involved with them. The plot was good, although toward the end it became almost predictable with how it was set up in the beginning of the book.
It was a quick read and I did like it enough when I finished to start reading the second book in the series, so I do think it's worth trying. Maybe the next book will have more character development so I care about them a little more.
I did enjoy reading about faeries, it was a nice change from vampires and werewolves--who seem to be everywhere you look nowadays!
