Excerpt from Chocolate Destiny by Alexa Silver
Just as intel had promised, there was a woman there, her dark red tresses glittering in the dawn light. She was turned away from him, so he couldn't make out her features. Right as he touched down, he embraced her, his third arm pressing the tranquilizer through her business suit into the tender skin of her arm. Before she could cry out, she collapsed limp in his arms and he sped away toward his ship in Rock Creek Park. They had to leave quickly, before the Earthlings mobilized their defense forces. If they were detected or trapped, all could be lost. Such was the danger of multiple, simultaneous kidnappings on this planet. One lapse could cause the entire operation to be ruined.
Carick shut his mind to the possibilities, gulping in air. He was a military man and his personal distaste of the mission was of no consequence to his superiors. To voice his opinions, or even to have his thoughts overheard, was tantamount to treason. Only Shara truly knew his objections, their telepathic bond stronger than it ever had been in the past.
I have her. Carick sent his thoughts to his sister before turning his attention to the woman. Her long hair masked her features, her muscles were slack and her body sagged against him. His arm around her waist was the only thing that anchored her to him. She was in fantastic physical shape for a woman well into middle age.
Good! Come back to the ship. The nurse has the sick bay ready. And be careful, Carick.
A smile ghosted his features and warmth spread through his body. He and Shara were closer than most, and she above anyone else had his best interests at heart.
He clutched the woman tighter and he swore softly, his body hardening swiftly. He wasn't supposed to be affected by his captive's pheromones, dammit! He had never been affected before! Yet a rush of desire came over him with dizzying force and he wobbled, nearly careening to the ground. Above the rush of his blood in his ears, he was dimly aware of people yelling and sirens blaring. He shook his head, trying to will his lust away. He had to get out of there or risk the mission being compromised.
As something hurtled through the air, only barely missing his ear, Carick realized that he and his soldiers were no longer invisible. He had to get low, between the buildings now to reduce the defenders' sight lines and transport this dignitary to his ship as fast as possible.
Carick sent the prearranged signal to his team who immediately spread out and began throwing tiny spheres that projected holographic images of Jerenian troopers. To the security forces on the ground. Suddenly there were hundreds of fleeing men to shoot at.
He took a deep breath, holding the woman tighter in his arms, his third hand maneuvering the flight harness. Within minutes, they were back at the dropship. As soon as they were aboard and strapped down, the copilot pointed the tiny combat shuttle's nose to the sky and blasted a screaming course straight up. Whatever air defenses Washington had, they were not designed to cope with a spaceship lifting straight up at supersonic speeds, and the dropship made it to orbit untouched.
Soon the smaller ship was docked inside the covert ops destroyer and that vessel was moving as planned into a translunar orbit.
As soon as the captive was removed from the dropship by the team's nurse, Carick stepped away. His body was humming and throbbing in ways it never had before. Heat pooled in his groin, the constriction of his heliobeast leather trousers against his stiff cock a curious blend of pain and pleasure. He hadn't been this aroused in years. If ever. I have to get out of here and away from her!
Rowan Newton was floating. She'd been waiting for her mother on the balcony, then everything had gone dark. Now she drifted in her own mind, voices sounding a long distance away. Am I dead? she wondered. The sensation of someone holding her and a spicy male scent filled her nostrils, but she couldn't come to the surface, she couldn't quite make out what was happening. She felt safe but wildly stimulated as well, distanced from her body's response but still aware.
Her mind bombarded her with images. Desolate sandscapes bled away to horribly emaciated humans, many buried in mass graves. The dying turned pleading eyes toward a handsome man who looked helpless. A craft, a spaceship of some sort. Orgasmic joy at the smell of soil and the texture of leaves. Eyes tilted toward the sun for a millisecond, a brilliant smile transforming a serious face. A woman, staring out the window of a plane or a ship in concern. Bullets flying, a man rushing into a park-like place...
With a soundless sigh, Rowan gave herself up to the darkness and knew no more.
