Here is the runaway bestseller that launched Tom Clancy's phenomenal career. A military thriller so gripping in its action and so convincing in its accuracy that the author was rumored to have been debriefed by the White House. Its theme: the greatest espionage coup in history. Its story: the chase for a top secret Russian missile sub. Lauded by the Washington Post as "breathlessly exciting," The Hunt for Red October remains a masterpiece of military fiction by one of the world's most popular authors, a man whose shockingly realistic scenarios continue to hold us in thrall.
“Flawless…frighteningly genuine.”—The Wall Street Journal
“Remarkable…intricate and nerve tingling.”—Clive Cussler
“Gripping narrative…Navy buffs and thriller adepts have been mesmerized.”—Time

1 . WOW!!
Posted September 21, 2010 by Michael , Washington StateThis is a classic military, espionage thriller. I remember reading this a number of years ago and was hooked. This is an easy read with lots of details and enough creativity to keep the reader interested. One of my favorites.
2 . Nothing like the movie
Posted September 04, 2009 by Nathan , San FranciscoThis was Tom Clancy's first novel and it was really well written and quite exciting. He researched the technology so well that the Dept. of Defense questioned him numerous times while he was writing the book to make sure he wasn't a spy of some sort. Tom Clancy later said that some of the technology was real and some made up.
The book's storyline was much better than the movie that came out many years later.
