Our Codes/Cards/Credit Offers

We offer a variety of codes and cards that are valid for either eBook downloads or credits toward eBook downloads.

Some of these codes and cards are promotional in nature, meaning they are provided free of charge or as a bonus in connection with a sweepstakes, contest or other promotion ("Promotional Codes"). These Promotional Codes may be provided either online or electronically, or on a card or through other promotional materials.

In addition, we may offer you the opportunity to obtain a credit toward eBooks downloads with the purchase of Sony's Reader device ("Credit Offer"). These credits may be automatically applied to your eBooks account upon device authorization at our online eBook service operated by us located at http://ebooks.connect.com (the "Service"). Like our Promotional Codes, these Credit Offers are entirely promotional in nature.

We also offer codes and cards that are products that must be purchased (often referred to as prepaid cards, gift certificates, or gift cards (collectively "Prepaid Cards"). These Prepaid Cards can be purchased in one of two ways: (1) from a retailer that sells the Prepaid Cards online or in retail locations, or (2) from the Service directly. The latter are delivered to recipients by email.

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") apply to Promotional Codes provided by Sony Connect Inc. ("we" or "us") or one of our promotional partners through a legitimate promotion involving us or rewards provided by us. These Terms supplement the terms and conditions that apply to the particular offer or promotion through which the Promotional Code is provided. By redeeming any Promotional Code you are agreeing to accept and to comply with and be bound by all of the following terms:

Promotional Codes must be redeemed through the Service. There is no charge to register and set up a Service eBooks account ("Account"), but you must have an Account to redeem any Promotional Code. When you register, you must download and install at no charge our current Reader software ("Software"), accept and agree to the End User License Agreement (E.U.L.A.) regarding use of the Software, complete the Account registration process, and authorize your Sony® Reader device, if applicable.
Accounts are subject to the eBooks Terms of Service available for review at www.ebooks.connect.com/termsofservice.html and the eBooks Privacy Policy available for review at www.ebooks.connect.com/privacy.html, which you must agree to accept in order to complete the registration process.
Only United States residents who are 13 years of age or older are permitted to have an Account and redeem Promotional Codes unless otherwise indicated in the terms accompanying the Promotional Code.
You must redeem your Promotional Code by the expiration date or "redeem by date" provided with your Promotional Code, if any. Then, a credit for downloads or a percentage discount on downloads as stated in the offer or promotion ("Credit") will be placed in your Account. Some Credits may expire if not used by a certain date. If Credit will expire, the expiration date will be provided with the Promotional Code.
Promotional Code and download availability may be limited per individual, account, household, email address and/or qualifying purchase. See the materials provided with your Promotional Code for such limitations. Please note that such limitations apply per promotional offer and are promotion-specific unless expressly stated otherwise.
Limit one Account per personal computer.
Not everything available from the Service can be exchanged for Credit. Credit may not be applied toward previous purchases or purchases of gift certificates, prepaid cards or gift cards. There are no representations, warranties or guarantees that any particular eBook or other content will be available from us or the Service at any particular time or at all.
The Promotional Codes are promotional, have no cash value and may only be used in connection with a trial of the Service. Promotional Codes may not be exchanged, redeemed or returned for cash refund, in whole or in part, and are void if sold for cash or other consideration. No change or value of any kind will be returned when a Credit is used and if any download exceeds the value of the Credit available, you must pay the balance through your Account to complete the transaction. We reserve the right to charge a credit card you have provided to the Service for such excess downloads. In the event that a Credit is a discount on eBooks downloads, we reserve the right to charge the credit card you have provided to the Service for the non-discounted portion.
Promotional Codes will not be replaced if lost, stolen or destroyed and are nontransferable and nonrefundable. If there is or has been (or we have reason to believe there is or has been) any fraudulent activity, unauthorized use or other activity in violation of these Terms or the terms and conditions that apply to your Account, we have the right, without notice or liability, to immediately deactivate and revoke your Promotional Code and any remaining Credits, to close your Account and take any other action permitted by these Terms, as well as the terms and conditions that apply to your Account. Please note this may affect any or all downloads you have purchased or downloaded using your Account.
Promotional Codes and Credits may have additional restrictions which will be indicated in the promotion or offer in which the Promotional Code is provided.

Promotional Code redemption and registration for an Account requires Internet access, an Internet connection (broadband suggested) and certain compatible equipment, software and communication capabilities (minimum system requirements are indicated below) which are solely your responsibility. Please refer to the FAQ section of the Service for complete details.

If we make a material change to these Terms we will post the new version at least 30 days before the changes become effective. These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") apply to Credit Offers and Credits (defined below). These Terms supplement the terms and conditions that are included in materials related to an applicable Credit Offer ("Credit Offer Materials"). By participating in a Credit Offer or using a Credit, you agree to be bound by all of the following terms (if you do not agree, do not participate in the Credit Offer or use a Credit):

Credit Offers and Credits are only applicable to the Service at www.ebooks.connect.com
To participate in a Credit Offer, you must follow all steps communicated in the Credit Offer Materials or within the packaging of your Sony Reader device. For Credit Offers requiring registration and authorization of your Sony Reader device, you must do all of the following on or before the date stated in the applicable Credit Offer Materials: (i) register for a Service end user account ("Account"); and (ii) authorize your Sony Reader device.
The credit applied to your Account following your complete participation in a Credit Offer (the "Credit") will have the value indicated in the applicable Credit Offer Materials, which may include (but is not limited to) any of the following: (i) a dollar value, (ii) a percentage discount, (iii) specific eBooks titles, or (iv) other specific products offered at the Service.
A Credit applied to your Account due to your participation in a Credit Offer must be used in its entirety on or before the date specified in the applicable Credit Offer Materials. No exceptions.
Limit one Account per personal computer. Registration for an Account requires that you do all of the following: (i) download the most current free Reader software application (the "Software"), available at the Service or through the CD ROM distributed with your Sony Reader device; (ii) accept and agree to the Software End User License Agreement for the Sony Reader device; and (iii) accept and agree to the Service Terms of Service (available at www.ebooks.connect.com/termsofservice.html) and Privacy Policy (available at www.ebooks.connect.com/privacy.html).
Credits may not be applied toward previous purchases or downloads. Credits may not be applied toward all products available at the Service. Credits may not be applied toward previous purchases or purchases of gift certificates, prepaid cards or gift cards. There are no representations, warranties or guarantees that any particular eBook or other content will be available from us or the Service at any particular time or at all.
For Credit Offers requiring the purchase of a Sony Reader device, there is a limit of one Credit per Sony Reader device unless otherwise indicated in the applicable Credit Offer Materials. For other Credit Offers, see the applicable Credit Offer Materials for limits of Credits per individual, Account, email address, qualifying purchase, household, devices, etc. Please note that such limitations apply per Credit Offer and are Credit Offer-specific unless expressly stated otherwise.
For Credit Offers requiring the purchase and authorization of a Sony Reader device, you may only register your Sony Reader device at the Service one time.
Only United States residents who are 13 years of age or older are permitted to participate in Credit Offers, use Credits, and have an Account, unless otherwise indicated in the materials that are a part of the Credit Offer.
Normal Internet Service Provider charges may apply for Credit Offers and Credits. Credit Offers and Credits do not cover any charges associated with Internet access.
Credit Offer Materials and Credits have no cash value and may not be substituted or sold for cash.
Credits are nonrefundable and nontransferable. Once applied to an Account, Credits may not be transferred to a different account. Credit Offer Materials will not be replaced if lost, stolen or destroyed.

Gift Cards, Prepaid Cards and Gift Certificates (collectively, "Prepaid Cards") shall have the value shown on their face after activation at register. If applicable, taxes must be paid separately (not included). Prepaid Cards can only be used to purchase eBook downloads from www.ebooks.connect.com ("Service"). Prepaid Cards have no cash value and are not redeemable for cash or other gift cards. Prepaid Cards cannot be resold or exchanged. To redeem a Prepaid Card, holder must be a U.S. resident age 13 or older; register at the Service, and open and maintain a free Service account ("Account") (agreement with all terms applicable to registration, maintenance and use of Account required); have certain minimum system requirements; download and install the free software available at the Service (agreement with E.U.L.A. required); and authorize holder's Sony Reader device, if applicable. You are responsible for any additional payments required for purchases in excess of the Prepaid Card value redeemed into your Account.

Neither we, nor any of our licensors, licensees, or parent or affiliated companies, or our or their employees or agents, make any warranties regarding Prepaid Cards, the Service or content within the Service, and hereby disclaim all warranties, express and implied, to the fullest extent permissible under law. We reserve the right to change the terms that apply to your Account and Prepaid Cards. Prepaid Cards are void where prohibited or restricted by law. We are not responsible for lost or stolen Prepaid Cards.
