  • 5.1 star out of 5Awful series

Red all three books thinking it HAD to get better, but it was all down hill. I can't fathom the lure of the series; the main character is very unlikeable. The one redeeming character of the series the author barely let live. I can't begin to imagine what kind of person could envision worst scenairos for her characters with each book; she obviously liked them as much as I did, for they barely survived her wrath.

if you need to put yourself through the torture of reading the series, stock up on the chocolate -- you'll need it to deal with the depression of Suzanne Collin's dreary reflections.
  • 6.5 stars out of 5 Not just for Teenagers!!!!

I agree that this is a trilogy that you will not be able to put down once you start reading. It draws you in quickly and you can't wait to see what is going to transpire between the characters! I disagree that this is a book for only teenagers! It involves various emotions and thought processes that the average teenager will miss...they may get the story but out of the 1000 plus books I have read nothing has been so emotionally jarring as this!!! The only thing that seperates this from other adult books is the lack of sexual scenes, which I did not need and I think they would have only drawn away from the events in the storyline.
  • 7.5 stars out of 5A friend talked me into reading it.

I disliked the Twilight series immensely so when the same friend who recommended it convinced me to give Hunger Games a try, I was highly sceptical. I bought the triology for my ereader. And a good thing, too. It went everywhere: to bed, to the doctors, riding in a vehicle, the grocery store line. I found myself waking during the night and reading for several hours because I just couldn't sleep - never had this problem until I got reading these books and I used every excuse I could find to read when I should have been doing other things. Good thing I'm retired.

I've rarely enjoyed a series of this genre to this degree. There are a few slower parts but I think they seemed more prominant because the author pulls you into the first book so quickly and completely. Then she maintains such a momentum that slow spots leap off the page but are generally quick to pass. Loved it. I'm not a movie buff - last time I was in a theatre - Dances with Wolves in 1989 or 1990. But I'll be going to this one!

  • 9.5 stars out of 5Couldn't put it down.

Posted March 07, 2012 by Jackie, Cypress, CA

My daughter read this series and told me it was good, had to have the books as they came out!, I have read lots of books that she has read, but it didn't really interest me.
then this school year she was assigned this book in her AP English class to read. As she had already read it, she was assigned another book. But I thought if they are assigning it to read in High School, it must have some merit, and my daughter wants to see the movie when it comes out. So I started it about a week ago and could not put it down until I read the whole trilogy. It is very well written and goes into the emotions of Katniss. I like that it is written in first person, because you really don't know what the other characters are thinking and you have to think about the reasons why Katniss makes the decisions that she does. It is like getting into her brain. I think this is a great book for High School students. I really enjoyed it.
