Author Information
Bio of Pam Crooks
Pam has long enjoyed the Old West era. Having lived in Nebraska all her life, and a good chunk of those years in the ranch country of western Nebraska, it was only natural that she grew to love the time period. Watching all the popular westerns such as Bonanza, High Chapparel, Gunsmoke and Rawhide -- with that cutie Rowdy Yates -- influenced her a bit, too. Pam has written much of her adult life. While waiting for her husband to return from the graveyard shift at Union Pacific, she penned her story in a spiral notebook with only Johnny Carson and his Tonight Show to keep her company. When she received an electric typewriter as a birthday gift, she was sure she'd hit the big time. But it wasn't until she moved to eastern Nebraska that she discovered Romance Writers of America and her local chapter. The computer age hit, and she was off and running. Pam lives with her husband (who is not a cowboy), and their growing family -- four daughters, two sons-in-law, their very first grandchild and last but not least, Spencer, a good-natured golden lab mix.
Bio of Carol Finch
Carol is an Oklahoma resident, with Native American heritage. She attended Odessa College in Texas on a tennis scholarship, then graduated from Oklahoma State University with a B.Sc. degree. She has earned hours toward a masters at Southwestern University, Oklahoma. Before making a full-time career of writing, Carol taught high school biology. Carol began writing while her children were preschool age. She gave up her teaching career to be a stay-at-home-mom on their isolated family ranch. After reducing life to the simplest explanations to answer her young children's questions, she decided to try her hand at writing to see if she could still communicate intelligibly with adults. After two years of keeping vampire hours to write after the children were tucked in bed, her first book was published. She progressed to writing during the day when her children were in school. During her 20-year career, Carol has penned 73 books under five pseudonyms in several genres. In her spare time -- and there hasn't been much of it because she never missed her children's school activities or baseball and basketball games -- Carol likes to garden, do carpentry projects, and help her husband, Ed, with farming chores on their 400-acre ranch. Over the years they have raised cattle, wheat, sheep, pigs, chickens, rabbits, turkeys, and peacocks, plus dozens of cats, dogs, and horses. The place is a zoo and that's the way Carol likes it. Carol, formerly a nationally ranked tennis player in high school and college, traded her racket for golf clubs. She's still the outdoorsy type at heart, although writing has become one of her greatest passions -- right behind her husband, children, and young grandchildren.
Bio of Elizabeth Lane
Known to her friends as a free spirit, Elizabeth Lane has traveled the world in search of new adventures and good stories. She has lived in Mexico, Guatemala, Panama and Germany and traveled to such exotic spots as China and Nepal, but she is most at peace in the mountains of her native Utah. As of this writing, she lives in a suburb of Salt Lake City with an eighteen-year-old cat named PowderPuff. Single since 1984, Elizabeth has raised a son and two daughters. One daughter, who died in an accident in 1985, is still a loving presence in her mother's life. The other two children are grown and thriving, and Elizabeth revels in her new loves--her grandchildren. Elizabeth is, perhaps, too easily lured by new challenges. She loves hiking, photography, belly dancing, animals, Native American culture, and any kind of music. She has pursued whales off Baja California, trekked the Himalayas, rafted the Grand Canyon, and even taken a flying lesson. Since 1983 she has worked full-time as an educational software designer. But her favorite pastime is writing lively, passionate stories that will reach out and touch her readers. Her novels have been published in ten languages and enjoyed in many parts of the world. Elizabeth's first novel, a historical saga about the Spanish conquest of Mexico, was published in 1980. Several more sagas followed, including two books set in China. When the market for big, serious historical novels faded, it took her four lean years to make the transition to romance. Wind River, her first Harlequin Historical, was published in 1989. She has also written several contemporary Silhouette books. "Everyone--and everything--has a story," Elizabeth is fond of saying when asked about her ideas. "From the penny in your hand to the stranger in the grocery line, each set of experiences is unique. Look around you and listen with your imagination. You'll have stories to write for a lifetime." Elizabeth Loves hearing from her readers. You can contact her at her e-mail address, elizl@uswest.net, or write to her in care of Harlequin Reader Services.
