The Secret Holocaust Diaries: The Untold Story of Nonna Bannister
Overview
Nonna Bannister carried a secret almost to her Tennessee grave: the diaries she had kept as a young girl experiencing the horrors of the Holocaust. This book reveals that story. Nonna's childhood writings, revisited in her late adulthood, tell the remarkable tale of how a Russian girl from a family that had known wealth and privilege, then exposed to German labor camps, learned the value of human life and the importance of forgiveness. This story of loss, of love, and of forgiveness is one you will not forget. |||This book is sold in the US by Sony Electronics Inc. |||This book is sold in Canada by Sony Electronics Inc.

I loved it!Posted April 26, 2011 by Ashley, Decatur, AL
I'm surprised by the 2 & 3 star reviews, this book was great! Please read the book description though and understand that this is not going to be like Anne Frank's diary because this is not a diary of a Jewish girl, this is the diary of a privileged young Russian girl who's family is caught up with Stalin's rule, the German occupation of Russia, WWII and the Holocaust. She isn't sent to concentration camps, like other Russian, Ukraine and Polish citizens she is sent to slave labor camps. She endures many hardships and faces many trials but it is not a story of the Jewish people suffering through the concentration camps. This is a perspective on WWII and the Holocaust from other (non-Jewish) survivors. It is a fantastic story, informative, heart-wrenching, distressing, and definitely broaden my understanding of what was occurring throughout all of Europe during that time. -
