Overview

Gabe Renault doesn't know why he was in a prison camp. He has no memory of the past three years or the Navy SEAL mission that went wrong. Only thoughts of his wife and of escape kept him going. After Gabe was presumed dead, Helen Renault pulled the tattered pieces of her family's life back together. Now she's standing on her own two feet at last-and proud of it. Then comes the biggest shock of all: Gabe returns home.

Editorial Reviews

In a departure from her customary historical and inspirational romance fiction, Melton, who also writes as Marliss Moon (By Starlight, etc.), offers a refreshing contemporary tale of love and memory. Helen Renault, a Navy SEAL wife, has come to terms with the loss of her husband, Gabe, who disappeared a year earlier while on a mission in North Korea. When Helen learns that he's alive but has no recollection of their two-year marriage or his dangerous mission, Helen should be happy; instead, she's stunned and disappointed. She'd been wildly attracted to Gabe when they first wed, before he'd grown into a moody, career-driven, emotionally distant man. Now all she wants is her freedom. Sharing a home once again, Helen slowly comes to realize the "new" Gabe is nothing like the man she remembers, and she begins to fall in love with him all over again. So what happens when he regains his memory and becomes the man he used to be? While the story focuses largely on Helen and Gabe's relationship, Melton adds a dash of suspense in the form of a traitorous member of his SEAL squad, who will go to any lengths to make sure Gabe remains silent. Fine writing, likable characters (one being their teenage daughter Mallory) and realistic emotions make this a satisfying read. Agent, Pamela Ahearn. (Dec.) Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

Bio of Marliss Melton

aving spent a life time in military and intelligence communities, it seems only natural that I should apply my pen to writing military romantic adventure novels in addition to medieval romance (by Marliss Moon). As the daughter of a foreign intelligence officer, I grew up overseas, attending American and International schools. I was considered the "creative" child, one of five. Three of my smart and talented siblings serve or have served in the highest levels of the Department of Defense, the DIA, and NAVAIR. Because of my interest in language, I became a foreign language teacher and married a U.S. Army Captain. Ten years later, following his sudden death, I published my first historical romance which became a RITA finalist for Best First Book. Then I met my soul mate: a twenty-year veteran of the U.S. Navy. He married me and adopted my two sons. Now a government contractor, my husband provides technology support for troops overseas. I pursued a Masters degree in Linguistics and now part time at the College of William and Mary. My husband and I have a combined family of six children, ranging in age from a toddler to a college freshman. I've been asked when I find time to write. My reply is that there's never enough time. I've perfected the art of writing in my sleep.
