Nine top fantasists imagine just how amusingly amok a wedding might run in this diverting compilation of original stories on the theme of nuptials among the fey folk. Jim Butcher, the sole male contributor, serves up the book's best romp, "Something Borrowed," in which wizard detective Harry Dresden prompts a bridezilla rampage from a malevolent fairy when he tries to break up her wedding with the werewolf whose intended she is impersonating. In L.A. Banks's amusing "Spellbound," descendants of the Hatfields and McCoys wage a slapstick war of spell and counterspell, while Charlaine Harris's "Tacky" projects the mishaps that might follow a mixed marriage between a werewolf and vampire. Possibly because most of the contributors are better known as novelists, the bulk of the stories read more like comic outtakes from larger works than independently plotted stories. Fans of paranormal romance will welcome the rare chance to see Sherilynn Kenyon, Susan Krinard, Rachel Caine, Lori Handeland and other favorite authors working in short form. (Oct.)

Jim Butcher is a ten-year student of martial arts, including Ryuku Kempo, Tae Kwan Do, Gojo Shorei Ryu, and a sprinkling of Kung Fu. He is a skilled writer who has worked as a horse wrangler and performed in both drill riding and stunt riding exhibitions. He also enjoys fencing, singing, songwriting, and live-action gaming. Patricia Nead Elrod is a interesting woman who took her three favorite subjects (Vampire stories, gangster films, and pulp magazines) and combined them into one. Bio of Esther M. Friesner

Esther M. Friesner is the author of thirty-three novels and over one hundred fifty short stories and other works. She won the Nebula Award twice as well as the Skylark and the Romantic Times Award. Best known for creating and editing the wildly popular Chicks in Chainmail anthology series (Baen Books), her latest publications are the Young Adult novels Temping Fate, Nobody's Princess and Nobody's Prize. She lives in Connecticut with her husband, is the mother of two grown children, and harbors cats.

Lori Handeland spent years waitressing, teaching, and managing a photography studio before selling her first novel in 1993. She is the recipient of many industry awards, most recently the RITA award from Romance Writers of America for her novel Blue Moon, which was named Best Paranormal of 2004. Bio of Charlaine Harris

Charlaine Harris, who has been writing mysteries for over twenty years, is a native of Mississippi. Born and raised in the Delta, she began training for her career as soon as she could hold a pencil. Though her early works consisted largely of poems about ghosts and (later) teenage angst, she began writing plays when she attended Rhodes College in Memphis, and graduated to books a few years later. After publishing two stand-alone mysteries, Harris decided to establish a series. She began the lighthearted Aurora Teagarden books with Real Murders, which garnered an Agatha nomination. Harris's protagonist, a diminutive Georgia librarian whose life never turns out quite the way she planned, kept Harris busy for several books, but finally Harris (and Aurora) grew restless. Susan Krinard never dreamed of becoming a writer. Trained as an artist with a BFA in Illustration from the California College of Arts and Crafts, she first considered the possibility when a friend read a short story she'd written -- "Fan Fiction" based on the television show "Beauty and the Beast" -- and suggested she try writing a romance novel. A longtime reader of science fiction and fantasy, Susan began reading romance -- and realized what she wanted to do was combine the two genres. Prince of Wolves, her first romance novel, was the result. Within a year, Susan had sold the manuscript to Bantam in 1993 as part of a three-book contract, and the novel went on to make several bestseller lists. Since then, Susan has written thirteen fantasy romance novels and several novellas, including Kinsman in the New York Times Bestseller Out of This World, and has begun a new fantasy series with LUNA Books, which launched with Shield of the Sky in 2004.
