Anna Fitzgerald is not sick, although it might seem. With just thirteen years old has endured countless surgeries, transfusions and injections so that her older sister Kate can somehow survive the leukemia that afflicts since childhood.

Anna, to be genetically compatible with her sister, was the ideal candidate to be the marrow transplant donor for Kate, thus assuming a role that would never question until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to ask who really is. But unlike others, she has always been defined according to Kate. It is now that Anna makes a decision that in the eyes of the world is just unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family, drawing perhaps fatal consequences for her sister she loves so much. This is a provocative novel that features a number of important ethical considerations. For the life of my sister is not only the family history of the struggle for survival but a contemporary moral parable.

Bio of Jodi Picoult

Jodi Picoult received an A.B. in creative writing from Princeton and a master's degree in education from Harvard. The recipient of the 2003 New England Book Award for her entire body of work, she is the author of fourteen novels, including The Tenth Circle, Vanishing Acts, and My Sister's Keeper, for which she received the American Library Association's Margaret Alexander Edwards Award.
