Author Information

Bio of Jeanne Allen

Jeanne Allen has drawn from her interest in science and nature to write thought-provoking stories that intertwine the genres of science fiction and romance. Jeanne is a member of the writers' group EPIC (Electronically Published Internet Connection). Her first novel is the science fiction thriller/romance The Most Daring Dreams, to be re-released in April 2005 through DDP. Jeanne resides with her husband and border collie mix, Ursula, in the North Woods of Minnesota.

Bio of Jeanine Berry

Words are Jeanine Berry ' s passion. Perhaps it is genetic since she comes from a family of writers. An avid reader all her life, she started scratching pen to paper at an early age. Once she learned to type, she kept her family awake late at night with the clicking of keys. Eventually, she left home, studied English and journalism and went on to a career as a journalist. The hard-charging, deadline-driven world of journalism left her little time for her own writing. But the desire to put her fantasy worlds down on paper in novel form never left her. When the Internet was born, she was hooked by the idea of ebooks. She dug out one of her old manuscripts from long ago, polished it up and sent it in to an epublisher. Her creative writing career was soon launched. She is now the author of three fantasy novels, and three SF novels, as well as a contributor to two anthologies. Dayspring Destiny, the final book of her Dayspring series, took the 2004 Eppie for best fantasy novel. Jeanine lives in the Chicago area with her husband and two very spoiled Australian Silky Terriers.

Bio of Shannah Biondine

A native Californian, Shannah Biondine resides in the hills of Ventura County with her husband, two teenagers, three large dogs, and a calico cat. Shannah writes full time and belongs to several writer organizations. Before turning to fiction, she owned and operated a resume/secretarial service and was a professional business writer for many years. Shannah is the author of numerous historical romances and several works of fantasy. Her Western historicals are published by New Concepts and Double Dragon Publishing. Her LTDBooks title, Shadow in Starlight, won the 2002 Eppie for Best Fantasy/Paranormal Romance and was both a 2002 PRISM Fantasy Finalist and 2002 RT Reviewer ' s Choice Award Nominee. She ' s also contributed a fantasy novella to the Double Dragon speculative fiction anthology, Twilight Crossings, which was a 2002 Dream Realms Finalist. Whiskey Creek Press is slated to release her paranormal historical romance, Sleight of Mind, in July ' 04; Double Dragon has a sequel to Twilight Crossings scheduled for September ' 04.

Excerpt from: Twilight Crossings by Jeanne Allen

Clouds of gloom hung over the village, concealing all evidence the sky had ever been blue. Hubert Alder stood before the woman on trial. "Your powers of healing go beyond anyone born of this earth. Every one of our brethren who has contracted the scourge has succumbed. But you!" the Tribunal Lord thundered, the long sleeves of his black robe flapping like bat wings as he pointed an accusing finger. "You've used your power to cure a man who committed grave sins against our God. You visited him in prison while he was ill with the scourge. His recovery shortly thereafter enabled him to overpower the guards and make his escape!"

On the large, wooden dais, Hubert paced slowly, deliberately in front of the crowd, then turned on his heel to face the accused. His voice became soft, but it was not soothing. "Why, Kander, would you allow an evildoer like him a full recovery when good people are left to suffer . . . unless you are evil yourself My own wife died under your care." He bowed his head as if needing a moment to overcome the sadness of having lost his spouse. He lifted his head. "What say you, witch "

She has already answered him! thought a yellow-haired girl, holding onto her mother's leg as she peeked through an opening in the crowd of adults standing around her. The woman did not know why the prisoner recovered while others she treated did not.

Kander did not answer the Tribunal Lord again, but stood tall, her eyes focused on the foot of the mountain that lay in the distance.

"Aha!" Hubert sneered. "You gaze at the City of Rubble, a city destroyed for its wickedness. Is that where our prisoner hides " Her gaze darted to him. "You answer not," he said, "but I see from your guilt-stricken eyes that I am correct. Have no doubt, we will find him."

"No, let him be!" she cried. "He has hurt no one!"

Hubert swung toward the eight judges sitting in a row on the edge of the stage. "How does the Council find this woman "

The little girl stared at each judge as he took his turn to somberly voice one word, "Guilty." When it was her father's turn, he hesitated.

Father, please let her go.

"Guilty," he said in the end.

The girl's mother made a noise of disgust. "Come, Isa, I've seen enough." She grasped Isa's hand and led her through the crowd. As they wound their way forward, Isa heard Hubert's voice. "On this eleventh day of April of the year nine hundred and ninety-three after the Great Dying, you, Kander Leading, have been found guilty of practicing sorcery. . . ."
