In 1982, having sold his jazz bar to devote himself to writing, Murakami began running to keep fit. Bio of Haruki Murakami

Haruki Murakami was born in Kyoto in 1949 and now lives in Tokyo. He is the author of several novels, including Norwegian Wood, Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, and A Wild Sheep Chase, and of Underground, a new work of nonfiction. His work has been translated into thirty-four languages, and the most recent of his many honors is the Yomiuri Literary Prize, whose previous recipients include Yukio Mishima, Kenzaburo Oe, and Kobo Abe.
