Author Information

Bio of George McGovern

George McGovern, the 1972 Democratic candidate for president, ran the Food for Peace Program under President John Kennedy and served in the U.S. Senate for eighteen years. A World War II bomber pilot and former professor at Dakota Wesleyan University, he was named by President Bill Clinton in 1997 as the U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization. In 2000, he was awarded by President Clinton the nation's highest honor, the Medal of Freedom. He divides his time among South Dakota, Montana, and Florida.
