Bio of Eliza Lee Follen

Follen , Eliza Lee ( 1787 - 1860 ) American poetess, author and an abolitionist, Follen is particularly known for writing children's poetry. Her most famous work in this regard is Little Songs for Little Boys and Girls (1833). From 1828 to 1830, she edited the Christian Teacher's Manual and from 1843 to 1850, applied her editing skills to The Child's Friend. Follen was an active member of the Massachusetts anti-slavery movement and her article, A Letter to Mothers in the Free States (1855), gained great popularity. Her other works include Piccolissima, Conscience, True Stories about Dogs and Cats, The Talkative Wig, The Skeptic, and The Sketches of Married Life.
