Deidre Knight is a literary agent, mom, wife, novelist and southern woman, and proud to answer to all of these titles. Before she founded The Knight Agency in 1996, Deidre worked behind the camera in movies and television. During the ten years since she launched her literary agency, she has grown The Knight Agency to national prominence, shepherding authors on to every major bestseller list. With agency sales of more than 450 titles, a large percentage of which are in the categories of romance and women's fiction, Deidre has established a reputation for discovering vivid and unique storytellers and is considered an industry expert on the hot trend of paranormal fiction. Writing in that genre, she creates fresh characters and strong, emotional storylines. One editor has described her as having "tremendous verve and a great knack for character and smart scenes." An alien king and a human geologist discover the wonders of love at first sight in this unusual debut, which fuses elements of science fiction and the paranormal into a palatable cocktail. Jared Bennett isn't your average hero. As king of a race of people known as Refarians, he can shape-shift into numerous forms, primarily a ball of energy and a handsome, dark-skinned human. He first meets Kelsey Wells in the guise of the latter in the midst of Yellowstone park. Their encounter is brief and innocent, but enough for them to fall in love. Even the memory-erasing efforts of Jared's guardian can't keep the two from recognizing each other years later when Jared, wounded and bearing vital information, turns to Kelsey for help. Her agreement sparks a series of events that draws them together--and leads an adversary from the future to travel back in time. The story barrels along at breakneck speed, with little focus on character development but a good deal on world-building. Although Knight succeeds in giving readers a reason to pick up the next book in the series, this tale lacks the depth that distinguish, the best romance novels. (Apr.)

    I'm presently on page 200 of 299 in the book and have had a very hard time just trying to finish it. The heroin in the book has no personality of her own and is a virtual "yesman" without backbone. Very slow moving...the "significant looks" get very boring after a while. I was really hoping for so much more.

    The characters are believable. The series makes you want to be there. Makes you wish you could change places with Kelsey and or Hope. The story line is intriguing. Make sure you read the books in order, but if not, you still can keep up since each is story on to itself, yet still connected. Loved it can't wait for the next one in the series.

Fire Within

Kelsey took a daring step closer, ignoring his warnings. "Who's after you?" she asked, searching across the water. "Please, maybe I can help."

Silence, gasps, desperate breathing. Then, Yes. That was the last thing she heard before she felt him enter her. Felt him, like a fanning breeze across her skin, unobtrusive, tender, apologetic.

Nothing in her twenty-five years had come close to the sensations she instantly experienced. She sensed him move quickly within her, felt her chest tighten, her whole body tremble. Like burning fingers, he caressed all the way into her very core. "Amazing," she whispered, wondering how he maintained a distance of at least four feet yet seemed somehow to enter her body simultaneously. But then, he spoke within her mind, so why should this surprise her?

Touching her abdomen, she felt his fire build there, and she cried out in response, sliding to the ground. "Please," she moaned, lying back on the earth, feeling him everywhere. God he'd set her on fire, teasing her toward some unseen edge. Like some erotic lover, he kept setting her ablaze, but he begged for her silence.
