  • 1.3 stars out of 5Good but...

I really enjoyed this author's style of writing. I felt involved and became attached to the characters as I feel one should in a good book. The one thing that bothered me about this story was that it was fairly predictable.....while still, I enjoyed the ride. I would read more by this author.

I loved this book and it was an excellent find. When I bought it I thought it would be very short and lacking details like other books at this price range but it was a wonderful read!

Charming, sweet book that you won't be able to put down. Your heart will ache for Mary!
  • 4.3 stars out of 5A bit sweet, but interesting social topics

I first gave it 2 stars because I found it to be a bit sickly sweet. Apart from a villainous husband and judgmental in-laws from the past, the only current character who isn't a model citizen in this flawless little town is a suitably unlikeable young cop. My favorite character was the priest I think, I liked that he's got this "I'm supposed to be perfect but I have this small, er, problem" thing going on. The topics of spousal abuse and social anxiety disorder, and how they were dealt with (or not!) in the 1940s, was the biggest draw for me. Earned it another half-star. I did think about the book at random times when I wasn't reading it, so that got it another half-star, for a middle-of-the-road 3. Could be just the thing for a long flight or a lazy weekend.
