  I downloaded this as a free e-book, and boy...was I glad I did! The cover and title don't do the book justice. It is riveting as it is exciting! I couldn't put it down!
  
  The author does a great job of pulling you in, and putting you right into the character's shoes. There is a lot of emotion in this book...love, hate, fear, sadness, anger, forgiveness....and it all ties together perfectly!
  
  Now to download the other books written by this author. I'm sure I will enjoy them as much as "Enemies and Playmates"

  At the time I downloaded this book, it was offered at no charge, but I had high hopes for it because of the overall decent reviews. I have downloaded free ebooks that led me to search for and buy other books by an author. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with this book. I found myself constantly checking to see how many pages were left, hoping that I was close to the end. I hate to give up on a book without finishing it, but I came very close with this one. The characters are poorly developed, and both they and the plot are unbelievable. Much of it reads like a juvenile romance novel. It certainly should not be classified as a thriller.

  'Enemies and Playmateis not a read that lets me escape. I imagine it too vividly. Darcia Helle seems to know where my fright and flight buttons are. But, she also generates a need to keep reading, so, I tremble as she pulls me further along.
  
  Darcia writes in a style that is very approachable. This book, lacking only the stage and camera directions, is a screenplay. A good one at that. It carries all the emotion necessary to put you on edge, just as she intends even with the barest of detail. Darcias realistic dialogue does all the work here. Lauren and Jesse dont plod through this crime novel, spouting cliche TV speak; its natural discourse. And, she has created a blisteringly real bad guy. Ive dealt with his ilk in my past.
  
  While I cant claim to be a fan of the crime genre, Darcia has won me as an admiring reader, first, with her outstanding �The Cutting Edge now this tale. I only pray she doesnt write a ghost story next - that would quite undo me!
  

• 4.DO NOT let the title fool you! A great suspense romance!

  ENEMIES AND PLAYMATES by Darcia Helle is a suspense/romance. It is well written with depth and details. The plot is easy to follow and very intriguing. Do not let the title confuse you into thinking it is anything except a wonderful sensationally interesting suspense and romance. While it does have a small amount of sweet sensuality, it is about abuse of a spouse toward his family, other people, power, murder, violence, deceit, betrayal, family, tragedy, romance, and love. The hero, Jesse, is handsome, strong, determined, a policeman turned into private investigator and determined to bring to justice the powerful lawyer, Alex Covington, but he doesn't plan on meeting the beautiful, Laurene. The heroine, Lauren, is brave, beautiful, the daughter of Alex, only knows her father is abusive to her mother and brother. She quietly learns of all the things her father is capable of, and has been doing for years. After the death of her brother more things begin to come to light. She soon learns just how evil her father really is and what he is capable of doing. Jesse, is her strength, her love and her hero. Lauren, is Jesse's world also and together they must outwit and outsmart her father to stay alive. This is a wonderful suspenseful romance with twists and turns and will keep you on the edge of your seat. I would highly recommend this story.
