Peterson, first appeared in 1855, was reissued in 1873 as The Heiress of Sweetwater: A Love Story, & spent the entire 20th century out of print. While copies of the bound book are extremely rare in either edition, over the years the novel has gained a legendary status in the Pinelands region of Southern New Jersey in which the story is set.
