Overview
For Durzo Blint, assassination is an art-and he is the city's most accomplished artist.
For Azoth, survival is precarious. Something you never take for granted. As a guild rat, he's grown up in the slums, and learned to judge people quickly - and to take risks. Risks like apprenticing himself to Durzo Blint.
But to be accepted, Azoth must turn his back on his old life and embrace a new identity and name. As Kylar Stern, he must learn to navigate the assassins' world of dangerous politics and strange magics - and cultivate a flair for death.

Bio of Brent Weeks
Brent Weeks was born and raised in Montana. After getting his paper keys from Hillsdale College, Brent had brief stints walking the earth like Caine from Kung Fu, tending bar, and corrupting the youth. (Not at the same time.) He started writing on bar napkins, then on lesson plans, then full time. Eventually, someone paid him for it. Brent lives in Oregon with his wife, Kristi. He doesn't own cats or wear a ponytail. Excellent!Posted October 15, 2008 by Batman, Peoria, IL
One of the best in the fantasy to come out in a while. Creative, with enjoyable characters. The only drawback was the use of some unnecessary language which wasn't as funny as intended and only served to pull me out of the unique world back to this one. But even this is minimized, and aside from that, this is a must-read

Stayed up all night...Posted January 09, 2009 by SM, Laval PQ Canada
The 1$ promotion was a fantastic way to get people hooked on Brent Weeks. Thoroughly enjoyed the book and went through it in just a few days. Just had to continue with the series and have already purchased book 2. Am looking froward to losing more sleep.

A great readPosted January 21, 2009 by Slav, East Brunswick
From the moment I started to read this book I could not put it down. I spent every free moment of my time reading until I was done. For me the only downside to the whole thing would be that some of the cultures were very obviously borrowed from the ones in our history.

A superb new seriesPosted April 07, 2009 by Stefan, New York
This is, without doubt, one of the best new fantasy series to be released in years. The characters, setting and pace of the novel are near-flawless, and even though it's a long series (all three books are more than 500 pages), you will likely burn through them quickly.
Highly recommended if you like your fantasy involved and gritty, but still with a few well-placed lighter scenes.
One warning, though: the life of the main character in the beginning is brutal, and some of the themes might be unsettling for some younger readers.
Overall, though, this is a must read for fans of Scott Lynch, Patrick Rothfuss, Joe Abercrombie, George R.R. Martin, Richard Morgan and so forth. -
Excellent Story with great characters Posted May 05, 2009 by Michael, Riverdale
I enjoyed this story very much. One of the best new fantasy books I've read in some time. The only thing that stopped me from giving it a Five Star rating was the language. It was often too hard and oddly out of place in many scenes of the story.
