Wish

Overview

For broken-hearted Olivia Larsen, nothing can change the fact that her twin sister, Violet, is gone... until a mysterious, beautiful gown arrives on her doorstep. The dress doesn't just look magical; it is magical. It has the power to grant her one wish, and the only thing Olivia wants is her sister back. With Violet again by her side, both girls get a second chance at life. And as the sisters soon discover, they have two more dresses-and two more wishes left. But magic can't solve everything, and Olivia is forced to confront her ghosts to learn how to laugh, love, and live again. In a breathtaking debut from Alexandra Bullen, WISH asks the question: If you could have anything, what would you wish for?

I loved the story, it seems to be more of a "teen" book, but I am 41 and enjoyed it tremendously. It was my first e-book, and I am glad that I chose Wish. I could relate to the characters, and would recommend this book. Make a wish. :-)

  • 3.5 stars out of 5And the butterfly flies away

Posted January 10, 2011 by Alyssa, Calgary

Wish was an interesting read for me, as it went back to the three wishes will come true thing that was constantly repeated. At first, I thought it would be a little boring but the prologue was amazing and I couldn't leave it unfinished. I liked how a little butterfly had such a big part in Wish and it also shows that little things can make a huge difference in somebody's life. It's nice to see Olivia learning how to live again after Violet's death, reappearance and disappearance along with learning to let go after wishing for the shooting star. It was a way of showing that she hadn't forgotten Violet and never would, but she wouldn't let Violet's absence get in the way of her living because Violet would never really leave. Alexandra Bullen asks a question that could be impossible to answer, but Olivia, with Violet's help, finds the answer that suits her best. Sometimes, when I think about it, it's like a bunch of cliches mixed into one where the most popular guy in school and the main character fall in love and the main character becomes best friends with the most popular girl in school. Somehow, Alexandra Bullen changes that and makes it totally original that I can't make it match up with anything else I've read. I can't complain about anything here.
