Bio of Jules Verne
Jules Verne studied law but began writing stories and working in theatre as well. When Vernes father discovered his son was writing, he promptly withdrew his financial support. Verne then worked as a stockbroker. His wife encouraged him to pursue his writing, and he became acquainted with Pierre-Jules Hetzel, an important French publisher. Hetzel helped improve Vernes writings, which until then had been repeatedly rejected by other publishers. He died a wealthy and successful author in 1905.

So much more than I expectedPosted January 20, 2009 by Dawn, St. Louis
I was excited to begin reading about Captain Nemo and at my age was frankly ashamed I had not yet read this book. When I entered the world Jules Verne created, I was hooked. The intelligent prose and details were incredible. I admit, I found myself getting out my dictionary once to look up a word. I am fascinated (still) at the details of the sea that Jules Verne explored. I highly doubt he could have known much of it to be fact at that time and yet most of the science employed has proved true. Anyway, forget my review, try it. You might like it yourself!
