Born: Jul. 30, 1857 - Manitowoc County, Wisconsin, USA Died: Aug. 3, 1929 - Menlo Park, California, USA Educated at Carleton College, Johns Hopkins University and Yale University, where he received his PhD in 1884, Veblen also studied as a graduate student at Cornell University. In 1892, he became a professor in economics at the newly established University of Chicago. In 1919, together with John Dewey and others, he helped to found the New School for Social Research. Veblen also taught economics at the University of Missouri. During his tenure in Chicago he wrote The Theory of the Leisure Class (1899) which was very successful. He also published The Theory of Business Enterprise (1904). |
